The “Musée des Arts et Métiers” hosts the exhibition “Les dessous des grands travaux” which opened on June 25, 2013. This installation on geotechnical themes is proposed by the French Committee for Soil Mechanics and Geotechnical and its partners for the first time in France and abroad.

The exhibition reflects the expertise of French consultants and companies in the field of geotechnical engineering by presenting works chosen for the technical and human feat they illustrate.
Each project presented is documented in texts, photographs, movies or “object tools”. We discover, for example, how was held in Paris the rescue of the “Grand Palais”, threatened to collapse; why the Tower of Pisa leans or how planes take off and land on a silty soil (Airbus site in Hamburg).
The exhibition also presents posters explaining the major works of the A86 Duplex tunnel, a unique construction in Europe, and the TBM (Tunnel Boering Machine) model, one of the main pieces of the collection.

The “real” exhibition (both in French and English languages) at the “Musée des Arts et Métiers” may be visited until June 24, 2018: one temporary part was closed in January 2014, but the other rooms are semi-permanent and may be visited until 2018.
The virtual exhibition (i.e. this App) is a replica of the museum rooms and enables you to view the whole exhibition (temporary and semi-permanent rooms).

Enjoy your virtual visit !
